Siddal Thump Heath
16 May 2011
Siddal thumped Thatto Heath Crusaders 40-8 in the National Conference Premier League Qualifying Semi-Final, and thus booked their place in the Grand Final in two weeks time.
The two teams had fought an excellent game of rugby three weeks ago when the Halifax side came from 0-18 down to win 36-18, but this tie was one-sided right from the start. Siddal scored within 3 minutes and Man-Of-the-Match, Siddal Full Back, Scott Caley scored the first of his four tries after only 7 minutes to give Siddal a 12-0 lead.
Heath had no answer to Siddals game plan and were 24-0 down at the break, Caley having already secured his hat-trick. In the second half Siddal finished off the job, allowing Heath to score two unconverted tries, but they now go on to the Grand Final on May 29th. Heath will have to play Leigh East next weekend to determine the other Grand Final team.
Leigh East came through their Elimination Semi-Final against Wath Brow Hornets by 16-0, and will hope to spoil Heaths party next weekend. They were 12-0 up at the break scored the crucial third try in the 54th minute to give Hornets a mountain to climb. The two teams will now meet at Thatto Heaths Close Street ground in the final elimination game of the season.
